Mozambique seeks Indian investment in core areas | ||||
NEW DELHI: African nation, Mozambique on Friday said it was seeking Indian investment in areas like bio-fuel, infrastructure and agriculture with a view to increase trade between the two countries. "Bio-fuel, infrastructure development, tourism along with agriculture and its allied activities like fruit processing are the areas which require huge investments in Mozambique," Mozambique Governor of Inhambane, Francisco Itai Meque said at a CII function here. He said the government would provide support like Visa and other incentives needed by Indian businessmen in Mozambique. "Indian investors in Mozambique will be provided trade incentives at every levels and the business in Mozambique will be secured through national policies," Meque said. Others sectors like fishing, minerals have huge potential in Mozambique which could be explored by Indian investors, he added. The country was also seeking India's assistance in imparting professional education and training to its youth in agriculture sector. "In our country, majority of the population is dependent on agricultural activities, we want India's assistance to train our youth for capacity building, imparting professional education and quality technicians for agriculture sector," he said. "India figures among the top ten partners of Mozambique both in terms of import and export. Trade between the two countries has grown from 37.48 million dollar in 2001-02 to 178.15 million dollar in 2005," Managing Director S S Chakraborty of Consulting Engineering Services (India), who chaired the function, said. | ||||
