Mozambican President Armando Guebuza on Friday accepted an invitation from the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) to speak at the opening of the Commonwealth Business Forum to be held in November in Kampala.
Guebuza received the invitation from the CBC director general Mohan Kaul, who is currently touring southern Africa According to a CBC source, during Kaul's meeting with Guebuza, the two men "also discussed trade and investment issues, how to increase trade, and how to improve the business climate in the region".
Kaul's message was that Africa must make more progress in becoming internationally competitive, if it is to increase its share of world trade from the current figure of just 1.5 per cent The CBC was set up by Commonwealth heads of government in 1997. It describes its goal as "to achieve economic empowerment for shared global prosperity through the enhancement of private sector contribution to social and economic development".
