Saudades a todos do André Thomashausen”

On January 11, 1983, as foreign minister of Samora Machel, Joaquim Chissano, directed the live execution by a military firing squad of three alleged Renamo guerillas at Manhica, a place about 70 kms from Maputo. The executed were not charged nor tried in a court of law.
The event was recorded and later relayed on Maputo radio with the intriductory note from the announcer saying " foreign minister Joaquim Chissano today presided over the execution of three armed bandits (then the regime's reference to Renamo guerrillas)."
As president of Mozambique, Chissano perpetuated the rule of open discrimination in favour of southern Mozambique against central and northern Mozambique, regions known in the parlance of his regime as "forgotten zones." Death squads like those that killed journalist Carlos Cardoso, who was investigating corruption, took place during his regime and and his own son, Nyimpine, was named in court as having masterminded and planned the killing. He used his power to protect his own.
There were many extrajudiary executions during his regime. His rule was far from being an exemplary rule. In prisons, it used dogs to kill and eat prisoners and allowed farmers to use prisoners as slave labour (Sunday Times, May 29 1988).Our blood stops still in our veins and stops running when we hear that the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in London has decided to grant this monster a prize for good governance? Good governance by Chissano's? My foot! Let the Ibrahim Foundation investigate the real criminal
